The Williams Builder Cardinals brought the West Windsor Spring 2009 season to a close with a resounding 13-5 win over the Robbinsville Dodgers in The District 12 Tournament of Champions final at Ewing’s Moody Park. Josiah Foster pitched 5 gutty innings while Thomas Marsh closed out the win with a strong final frame. Alex DeSanctis paced the West Windsor offense with 2 home runs and 4 RBIs as the Cardinal bats came alive up and down the line-up. Jonathan Gelb had a crucial 2 out 2 RBI single that broke the game open while Joe Mulcahy also drove in two. Matt Epstein, Taiway Kyon and Harry Meadows each chipped in an RBI while Josiah Foster had 2 hit and scored 2 runs. The Cardinals also flashed their trademark leather as the team committed no errors while Thomas Marsh took away a sure double with a running back-handed catch that saved two runs early in the game. Matt Kenney made a crucial back-up of an overthrow that kept two baserunners from advancing and saved a run while Joe Mulcahy caught 6 flawless innings that kept his pitchers in their comfort zone throughout the night. But the defensive play of the night and fitting end to the Cardinals Championship season was the 6-4-3 double play turned by Alex DeSanctis, Josiah Foster and Jonathan Gelb that ended the game and brought the Tournament of Champions banner to West Windsor. Congratulations Cardinals -- West Windsor Little League can be proud of how these fine young men, great players and even better sportsmen played all season.

The Williams Builder Cardinals scrapped their way to hard fought 4-3 win over a game West Trenton squad Sunday night in Ewing. Coming on the heels of a disappointing 12-11 7 inning loss in the WWLL championship game, the boys resiliently overcame a West Trenton pitcher snapping off curve balls as he held WW to 2 runs in 5 innings of work. James Nabial was nearly equal to the task as he held West Trenton to 3 runs (1 earned) in 4 1/3 gutty innings. Trailing 3-2 entering the 6th Cardinal bats came alive. Alex DeSanctis rocketed a lead-off triple to the right field wall. 2 batters later James Nabial gapped a double to right center which plated Alex and Josiah Foster who had worked back from an 0-2 count for a walk that turned out to be the game winning run. Joe Mulcahy pitched 1 2/3 of scoreless relief, while Brian Starace and Thomas Marsh perfectly executed a delayed double steal to score and important early run. Taiway Kyon drove in the Cardinals 2nd run with a screaming line drive triple that plated Joe Mulcahy. As has been their hallmark all season long the Cardinals flashed some leather tonight and no play was more important than Matt Epstein stabbing a rope to 3rd in the 6th inning and retiring the lead runner to snuff out West Trenton’s final rally. The Cardinals play for the Tournament of Champions title against Robbinsville this Friday June 19 @ 7 pm in Ewing. Please come down to Ewing’s Moody Park to cheer the Cardinals on in the championship game.

The Cardinals jumped out to a first inning 7-0 lead with Harry Meadow’s 2 run double to right providing the biggest punch en route to a 7-1 win over Ewing’s B Rich Builders. The Cardinals repeatedly threatened but solid pitching and defense on the Ewing side kept B Rich within striking distance. However, the Cardinals would never give B Rich a chance to climb back into the game. Thomas Marsh and Joe Mulcahy combined for six sparkling innings. Thomas and Joe required only 75 collective pitches to complete a game that saw Cardinal pitchers issuing no walks and Cardinal fielders committing no errors. Alex DeSanctis again led the way with spectacular play at shortstop (3 putouts and 3 assists) while James Nabial made a beautiful turn from 2B to complete a 6-4-3 double play that snuffed out Ewing’s only serious threat. Mike Sherman, Harry Meadows and Thomas Marsh each made outstanding catches in the outfield to help seal the Cardinals impressive victory. The Cardinals play the winner of the Millstone/Bordentown match-up in the Tournament of Champions semi-final this coming Saturday (6/13) at 7 pm. Please come down to Moody Park in Ewing to cheer on the Cardinals.

In what is becoming an annual tradition, the New Jersey District 12 organizes an annual “Tournament of Champions.” Each 1st place team from the Little Leagues around the District compete in this single elimination tournament in order for the best regular seasons teams to have a chance to test themselves against other league champions.
West Windsor’s representative, the Williams-Builder Cardinals were more than up to the task as they convincingly defeated Lawrence Little Leagues Briccio Delis 14-4. James Nabial pitch 3 shutout innings, yielding only 1 hit while striking out 5. Joe Mulcahy paced the West Windsor offense with 3 RBI while Mike Sherman and Thomas Marsh both tripled and Josiah Foster homered. The Cardinals also flashed some leather as they completed a nifty 7-6-4 putout on a Lawrence hitter trying to stretch a single into a double and turned a line-out to short into a 6-3 double play on the strength of Alex DeSanctis powerfully accurate arm. The West Windsor Williams Builder Cardinals face off against host Ewing tonight (Monday 6/8) at 7pm against host Ewing at Ewing’s Moody Park. Please come out and cheer the team on.
